In 1995 Kinnari's uncles decided to put the family house in the Old City of Ahmedabad on the market, most probably to be demolished to make way for a shopping centre or apartments. John and Kinnari decided to purchase the ancestral home and they named it after Kinnari's late mother, Pratima. On moving in they realised the value of these homes and neighbourhoods and decided to help conserve them.
