To conserve our heritage by turning it into a museum piece would be like a dead embalmed body that only gives the appearance of being alive.

Nevertheless, the elements of our history need not only be pathological, they might alternatively be ‘propelling’, serving to bring the old into the new and providing a past that can still be experienced in the present.
