ABHIJEET LAKHIA

The underlying theme in Abhijeet's architecture is that of doing a social service that empowers people.

After graduating from the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad. Mr. Lakhia was the principal architect under SEEDS, an NGO charged with the reconstruction of Patanka village after the 2001 Gujarat earthquake.

He then moved to New York City and worked at Eisenman Architects on the Berlin Holocaust Memorial and the City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela.

Abhijeet is currently an associate at Gran Kriegel Associates, with whom he is involved in the building of New York City public schools, liaising with the NYC Landmarks Commission and other public service-related architecture.

Mr. Lakhia moved back to India in 2010 to expand Gran Kriegel's prospects and started his own practice, Adaptive Response Architects and Designers or ARAD.

 

Since then, ARAD has been involved in the re-building of a Community Hall after the 2011 Ladakh flash floods with LAMO, pilgrim housing for The Somnath Trust, numerous new and conservation projects in Goa and in Ahmedabad, where he is the principal architect and builder for six heritage buildings within the Old City of Ahmedabad.
